Sê xal — the three dots
“Sê xal” means “three dots” in Kurmancî. The motif draws on deq (also called xal), the ancestral Kurdish art of tattooing, where a dot is never mere ornament.
In deq, a row of dots wards off the evil eye and stands for strength and stability. Long passed from mother to daughter, this language of marks is seeing a revival today as an assertion of Kurdish identity.
On this t-shirt, the three dots echo the three elements of the flag — the red, the sun, the green — and the OpenKurd emblem: three quiet marks, embroidered into the cotton, worn the way one wears belonging.
